Shokunin (more like "Shyokunin") is the japanese word for craftsman or artisan,
or even tradesman. The phrase "Shokunin Katagai" "Shokunin Kushitsu" translates
to something like "the craftman’s spirit." It’s the concept of not just doing
your work but applying a complete focus and continual improvement. What is
surprising to me is that the japanese apply this concept to whatever their work
may be, whether it’s as a sushi chef or as a janitor. It’s hard to argue with
in theory; whatever we do we should certainly do to the best of our ability.
